Background
South Africa is the most industrialized country in Africa
and rich in natural resources, especially minerals.
After repeal of apartheid in the early 1990's,
foreign trade and investment increased. In the
1990's and early 2000's, however, the AIDS epidemic
spread rapidly, bringing unspeakable suffering
and destruction especially among young people,
and began to hinder economic growth.
Supporting The Doctors
For Life
The Doctors
For Life, or DFL, is a non-for-profit organization
established in 1991 to meet the overwhelming medical
needs caused by the AIDS epidemic in South Africa
and Africa in general. The members of DFL consist
of doctors, medical specialists, dentists and
veterinarians from across South Africa and the
world. DFL aims to increase the awareness and
prevention of AIDS, to provide medical and home
care for AIDS patients, to engage in campaigns
against substance abuse, and to develop and supply
affordable and effective medicines to developing
countries.
We are providing financial support to DFL with
respect to the childcare facilities for AIDS
orphans and funded the construction of a mobile
medical clinic that has enabled DFL to reach out
poverty stricken rural areas of South Africa and
adjacent countries.
