Background

Colombia's major export commodities are oil, coffee, and, tragically, cocaine. Colombia gained its independence from Spain in 1819 and became a separate nation in 1831. The struggle between Conservatives and Liberals has given Columbia 150 years of partisan politics, dictatorships and civil war. The two contending parties supported a variety of violent Marxist guerilla groups, leading to a pandemic of assassinations and kidnapping.

Feeding Program for the Homeless

We support a feeding program through a local organization based in Medelin, the drug capital of Columbia. The program feeds several hundred homeless people. We provide a portion of the funding required for this feeding program.
