World
Aid New York traces its beginning to humanitarian activities
undertaken by a small group of individuals, including
certain current members of the Board of World Aid New
York in Kosovo in late 1990's. Their experience involving
a war-ravaged country and helpless children crystallized
into keen awareness that long-term-oriented humanitarian
efforts were desperately needed to address profound needs
of children and youth in war-torn or poverty-stricken
areas of the world. The determined efforts to create an
institutional platform to address those needs resulted
in the establishment of World Aid New York.
World Aid New York officially commenced its activities
as a Section 501(c) (3) organization in February 2001
and has since been led by Mr. Jerald E. Hampton, the
President and Chairman of the Board of World Aid New
York, who was also involved in the humanitarian endeavors
in Kosovo described above.
From the beginning, we have focused on collaborating
with, and providing financial resources to, local groups
or organizations that have established a proven track
record in faithfully and effectively serving the needs
of local residents in different parts of the world.
While retaining the flexibility to provide short-term
or emergency relief, we have consistently sought to
identify and support long-term aid programs indigenously
developed or established through close coordination
between us and local organizations.
In light of this overall vision and operating philosophy
(which is described in greater detail elsewhere), we
have provided financial and other assistance in connection
with the following projects and aid opportunities.
- A feeding program for the homeless in
Colombia
- Micro farms growing coffee trees in Guatemala
- A post-orphanage youth residential facility
in Macedonia
- An orphanage and an affiliated school
in Mozambique
- Medical supplies for a health organization
in Nigeria
- Emergency relief supplies following the
terrorist attack in New York City
- Transportation costs for relief supplies
for children in Rwanda
- AIDS orphans programs in South Africa
- A mobile medical clinic program in southern
Africa
In order to fund the foregoing and other future programs,
we have engaged in fundraising activities, including
a benefit concert in May 2000 and annual benefit golf
tournaments. The first golf tournament was held in September
2000 and the subsequent tournaments were held in October
2001 and September 2002. Since all of our directors
and officers are volunteers, virtually all of the donated
funds are directly applied toward the provision of relief
supplies and related services. We will continue to seek
to maximize the humanitarian impact of donated funds
by maintaining a streamlined organization and efficiently
utilizing services of volunteers.
